Darwin (23rd May)

We have finally left WA and into the NT, after spending a nice time at lake Argyle we drove across the border and our first stop for lunch was a parking bay, Saddle Creek where to our surprise was about 15 other caravans doing the same thing so a quick lunch turned into a couple of hours swapping stories and taking notes on where to camp and where not too.

after leaving Saddle Creek we drove for another hour and decided to camp the night at Big Horse Creek for the night, a nice camp site but very full of like minded travelers we were lucky to find a spot it was that busy, after setting up it was time for a beer or two with some other campers we met further back in WA so ended up being a late night with a lot of others coming over for chat. after our goodbyes the next morning we headed of driving through some beautiful scenery of red faced gorges and escarpments, this is some of the best scenery we have seen since Broome, we ended up camping at Victoria river for mothers day, so I treated Robyn out for dinner at the station road house which was good value and cheap camping at 14.00 a night.

the next days drive took us into Katherine where we stocked up on food and fuel for our trip to Pussy cat Flats, we booked into the camp for a few nights so we could have a look around Pine Creek a gold mining town.

the next part of our journey was to visit Darwin so we booked into the Oasis Caravan Park for a week, a nice park with pool and lots of friends for jock, from the caravan park we went out each day and night to see the sights of Darwin, taking in the Museum which at the time had the Cyclone Tracey exhibition showing film and before and after photographs a must see if in Darwin, we had lunch at the marina, took a sunset cruise and dinner around the harbor, jock had a swim on casuarina beach, Humpty doo police station to find a friend of Robyn’s, Howard Springs, the Damoe City walk, had the Ranger serviced, went to the Mindil markets for shopping and great Asian food.
