Pilbara (7th April)

hello again we have finally seen some of the Pilbara and we hope this is just a taste of what’s to come with the Kimberly’s, after leaving Gladstone beach we ventured north to  Carnarvon where we stocked up on groceries, filled with fuel and water and spoiled our selves with a nice chilly pie (we have been on a strict diet for over a month) and boy did it taste “good”.

we then continued north slowly because of the sheep goats and emu’s in this area and pulled up at a free camp just south of coral bay.

we cooked up a beautiful meal of fresh fish crumbed with a salad and wine 🙂 while jock was running around with some new friends a whippet and jack Russell, he had a ball, after a good nights sleep we started out towards Coral Bay which was part of the Ningaloo Reef a pretty spot with white sand and turquoise water a nice place to see and swim.

then headed towards Exmouth but decided to pull into a dirt track and came across a great free spot to camp right on the beach.

We tried our luck with some fishing, but too many bait fish swimming around so settled for drinks and walks along the beach, we stayed at this camp spot for two days as the caravan parks are now charging $50.00 per night 🙁 we dropped the van there and went and had a good look around Exmouth and did some washing and shopping.

after a couple of relaxing days on the beach we started north again, we put quite a few klm behind us that day and pulled into a parking bay on the river which was almost dry, unfortunately we had a bit of a wanker annoying us from the second we pulled up and wouldn’t leave us alone for hours, think he has been there for months with nowhere to go.

Not sure what this bird is ?

So after little sleep we drove into Karratha and filled the water tanks ($1.00 for 50ltrs) dropped the caravan at the information center and took a drive around Dampier, Hearson Cove no free camping so we decided to drive around to point Samson caravan park, very nice park at $49.00 per night but this gave us a chance to get the aircon on and have a good look around,

after spending a couple of days at Point Samson we drove north to Port Headland restocked the grog and food and turned east to the Hottest Town in Australia “Marble Bar” it was about 150klm east and it was 40 c when we got there, we went to the only park there and plugged in the aircon and then headed out to the marble bar pools, the country is so beautiful out there I could have stayed a couple of weeks just taking photo’s it really is the best part of the Pilbara we had seen.

    • Hello Linda
So Glad you like the photo’s, i had Robyn and Jock up well before the sunrize for those marble bar photo’s.
a little pay back as Robyn is the early bird most mornings, one of the best parts of dragging a caravan around this big country is when you come across out of the way places like that, from what people are telling us is that is just a taste of what we will see in the kimberleys, were still waiting for you at the Broome airport 🙂
      Take care love us xxx
