Yorke Peninsula (30th Nov)

Hello all, we have had a nice drive through from Swan Reach to port Arthur at the top of the Yorke Peninsula we stayed in a overnight parking bay next to the ocean, a bit noisy with trucks going by at night but hey it was free camping.

We travelled to a very small town called port Julia and set up camp at the town oval (not being used anymore) cost was $7.00 a night no water and no power, the ground was dry and hard but plenty of sun for the solar panels and we filled our water tanks at the RSL in Ardrossan before arriving there.

we had a good look around Ardrossan, a town that is showing signs of new development in housing (as is the whole of the east coast of the Peninsula)
it has good jetty and holiday destination feel about it, while there we stocked up on food and alcohol.

We spent two nights at port julia and just relaxed having a fish of the local jetty where Robyn caught her first Squid which we took home and prepared for some salt and pepper crumbed calamari rings, and they were great!

After a couple of day’s at port Julia we booked in to the caravan park at Yorketown staying here for a week we used this as a base to have a good look around the bottom of the Yorke, we spent each day going to the little towns, each having there part in history, the area mainly was involved in grain, wool and lime production for the supply of Adelaide, thats why there are so many small ports and loading jetties in the area, the towns people would load there horse and carts with wool or grain and take to one of the ports and load onto clipper ships that would transport across the gulf to Adelaide.

Around Yorketown there many small salt lakes that were also harvested and sent to Adelaide salt being the main Preservative of meat and fish.

Were now on our way to set up a camp along the west coast near the Copper Triangle, Wallaroo, Moonta and Kadina.
Im waiting on some new headers at Kadina looks like there is a crack in the left side exhaust manifold (a common problem with the Pajeros, cast crap) i have some new S/S Redback extractors too fit so all should be good.
